The Therapeutic Process
-
Yes! I’ve found that virtual therapy is not only effective but often more impactful for exposure work. We get to do "fieldwork" in your actual environment where your triggers live. It’s convenient, HIPAA-compliant, and allows us to tailor exposures to your real life in real-time.

I typically start off seeing clients on a weekly or biweekly basis depending on the severity of symptoms and how much OCD and anxiety are affecting your day-to-day functioning. I also understand other factors, like finances and scheduling, play a role in this decision. I typically discuss the frequency of sessions with clients during the intake session and revisit it throughout treatment to ensure alignment with your progress!
-
Length of treatment is a collaborative and evolving conversation. Most clients plan for six months to a year, but this varies based on your specific goals. Some clients find relief from immediate OCD symptoms and choose to transition to working on other life goals or comorbid issues like depression. As you gain confidence, we often "space out" sessions to help you practice navigating obstacles independently.
-
As a counselor, I cannot prescribe medication. However, I can refer you to qualified psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners if you are interested in medication and can communicate with them (with your signed permission) to coordinate care.
-
Therapy, including ERP, is meant to go at your pace. The good news is that you are in the driver’s seat. We aim for challenges that feels difficult but doable. I will never push you off a metaphorical cliff; instead, we build a ladder together. I’ll be right there with you, and I won’t ask you to do anything I wouldn’t do myself (and I’ll often do the exposure right along with you in session!).
-
I know that OCD rarely shows up to the party alone. In fact, it’s very common and completely normal to navigate other challenges alongside it. I frequently work with comorbid conditions such as Depression, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Generalized Anxiety, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs).
Regarding trauma: I am a trauma-informed provider, meaning I prioritize your safety and pacing. While I am not a trauma-reprocessing specialist, I understand how trauma can intersect with anxiety. If we find that your primary need requires a trauma specialist (such as for EMDR or Prolonged Exposure), I am happy to provide a referral to a trusted colleague to ensure you get the best care possible.
-
After our initial consult, I will send you paperwork to fill out on a secure EHR platform and, if applicable, get your insurance set up and provide you details on your benefits, including cost per session. We’ll set up our first session, which will continue our conversation from the consult call and delve into your background, previous experiences in counseling, and goals for our time together. In the next two sessions, we’ll review your assessments and devise a treatment plan focused on your stated goals, while always allowing room for these objectives to grow and evolve as you do!

Because your hour is reserved exclusively for you, late cancellations or missed appointments are subject to a fee up to the full session cost. However, I know life happens!
